Patent awarded for new puncture technology for the Mini-PCNL

The "Optical PCNL Access Catheter" has been awarded as the best patent of the week by DeviceMed Magazine.

Prof. Dr. med. S. Lahme, together with Dr. med. J. Ebnet (Ebnet-Medical GmbH) and W. Schwarz, has developed a new method for puncturing the kidney in minimally invasive PCNL (Mini-PCNL), where the puncture is performed under optical control and can largely eliminate the use of X-ray radiation in the future. The puncture set consists of an all-in-one solution with a special needle equipped with a built-in video camera at the tip, as well as a dilator and Amplatz sheath. The patent for the puncture set was applied for on August 16, 2022, and published on February 22, 2024. The puncture set is currently being further developed with an internationally operating medical device manufacturer.

On February 26, 2024, the Optical PCNL Access Catheter was awarded as the best patent of the week by DeviceMed Magazine.
